Santa Alicia Carmenere 2008 Maipo Valley, Chile

A somewhat light plum-red color.  The nose senses strong aromatics of berries, black pepper, tar and acrid smoke – not all pleasant-sounding, but they are attractive and intriguing in their distinctiveness and individuality.  The strong concentration of fruit on the palate again shows berries, along with black cherry, clove and tobacco.  The concentration of fruit is well balanced with the tannin, but the finish, while pleasant, is short.  The creamy texture and warm sensations are like putting on a sheer sweater on a crisp summer evening.
